Nearest Airport to Dwarka: Jamnagar Airport is 141 km and 2.5 Hours Away

Dwarka city does not have its own airport, and as of 2026 none is operational. This means every air traveller must land at a nearby city airport and complete the journey to Dwarka by road. There have been discussions and proposals in various Gujarat development plans about building an airport closer to Dwarka or at nearby Okha, but nothing has moved to construction stage. Plan your journey accordingly, air travel to Dwarka always has a mandatory road segment at the end.

The absence of an airport is partly what has preserved Dwarka's character as a pilgrim town rather than a mass-tourism destination. The city cannot be reached in three hours from any major metro, which naturally limits casual tourist footfall while attracting genuine pilgrims willing to make the full journey. This is worth understanding when you plan, Dwarka rewards pilgrims who come with adequate time, not those rushing in for a half-day visit.

The two airports you will use as gateways, Jamnagar and Rajkot, both require a cab or bus journey to complete the last leg to Dwarka. Jamnagar is geographically closer, but Rajkot offers far more flight options and connects to more cities. The choice between them depends on where you are flying from and what flight schedules look like on your travel dates.

Rajkot Airport (RAJ) is the more practically useful gateway for most air travellers despite being further from Dwarka at 215 km. The reason is simple: Rajkot has far better flight connectivity. IndiGo operates multiple daily flights between Mumbai and Rajkot. Air India, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air also serve Rajkot from various cities. From Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata, Rajkot is reachable with one-stop connections in Mumbai or Ahmedabad. Finding a flight to Jamnagar from anywhere outside Mumbai can be difficult or impossible on certain dates.

Rajkot to Dwarka by cab takes 3.5 hours on NH947, the same road that continues all the way to Jamnagar and then to Dwarka. The cab fare runs ₹3,500-5,000 for a sedan depending on negotiations and the cab operator. Many pilgrims flying into Rajkot book a Rajkot-Dwarka-Rajkot round-trip cab with the driver waiting in Dwarka for 2-3 days, then returning together. A round-trip package for 3 days typically costs ₹8,000-14,000 for a sedan, which splits attractively among a family or small group.

If your flight schedule puts you at Rajkot at odd hours, say, late evening, consider spending the night at Rajkot and departing early the next morning for Dwarka. Rajkot is a major city with many good hotel options. A 6 AM departure from Rajkot gets you to Dwarka by 9:30 AM, in time for the temple after the peak morning rush.

For groups of 4 or more traveling together, the cab cost from any of these airports splits to a reasonable per-head figure. A ₹3,000 cab from Jamnagar costs ₹750 per person in a group of four, competitive with train fares. For solo travelers or couples, the train is almost always more economical than flying plus cab combined.
