Rajkot Hirasar International Airport sits roughly 30 km from Rajkot city, on the outskirts toward the Gujarat interior — a greenfield facility built to replace the older, smaller in-city Rajkot airport. Because Hirasar is positioned further from the city than the airport it replaced, the road distance to Dwarka from Hirasar runs longer than older Rajkot-airport distance figures you may have seen quoted elsewhere. The most reliable figure for Hirasar specifically is approximately 260 km to Dwarkadhish Temple, though you will see the range quoted anywhere from 234 km to 275 km across different sources — the variation comes from whether the measurement starts at the terminal gate or the airport approach road, and which combination of highways the route planner selects.

The standard road route from Hirasar runs west and northwest on NH51, passing near Jamnagar before continuing on toward Dwarka via NH947. This is the same corridor used by road traffic between Rajkot city and Dwarka, so once your taxi merges onto the highway past the airport approach road, the drive is a continuous highway run with Jamnagar as the roughly halfway point.

Traffic through Jamnagar town itself can add 15-20 minutes at peak hours, but outside of that stretch the highway is a well-maintained, mostly straight national highway run. Most drivers factor in one short stop for tea or a washroom break roughly at the Jamnagar midpoint, which is included in the 4.5-5 hour estimate above.

Hirasar is a modern, spacious terminal, considerably larger than the older Rajkot airport it replaced. In practice, this means the choice usually comes down to what flights are actually available on your travel dates rather than which airport is nearest on a map. A traveler who cannot find a convenient direct flight to Jamnagar or Porbandar will often find a Hirasar flight far more easily, and the extra hour or so of road time from the longer distance is a reasonable trade for a more reliable and better-timed flight. For travelers with flexible dates who can find a direct Jamnagar flight, that route saves meaningful road time. For everyone else, Hirasar's better connectivity typically makes it the more dependable gateway into the Dwarka pilgrimage circuit.
