Dwarka is connected to India's main rail network primarily through the broad-gauge Western Railway line that runs from Mumbai through Surat, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jamnagar, and eventually reaches the coast at Okha, with Dwarka as one of the last major stops before Okha. This routing means that most long-distance trains coming to Dwarka pass through Ahmedabad or Rajkot first.

From Ahmedabad, the Dwarka Express (check current train number on IRCTC) takes approximately 9 hours to reach Dwarka. The departure is typically in the evening, arriving early morning, timing that suits pilgrims well, as it places them in Dwarka in time for the morning Mangla aarti at 6 AM. From Rajkot, some passengers take a local or express train covering the 215 km in roughly 4–5 hours by rail, though many prefer road travel for this leg as it is faster. From Mumbai, the Saurashtra Mail (19005/19006) and similar long-distance trains typically terminate at Okha (36 km beyond Dwarka), with Dwarka as a stop en route, so you can board and alight at Dwarka directly without going all the way to Okha.

From Delhi, there is no single direct train that runs the full distance to Dwarka. Pilgrims from Delhi typically take a train to Ahmedabad or Rajkot, then change for a service to Dwarka. The Yoga Express and a few other trains connect Delhi to western Gujarat, with onward connections. Total rail journey from Delhi via Ahmedabad to Dwarka is in the range of 28–36 hours depending on connections.

Train tickets to Dwarka should be booked as early as possible, especially if travelling during peak pilgrim season from October through February or during major festivals like Janmashtami (August) and Navratri (October). Trains to Dwarka and Okha are heavily booked during these periods, and berths can sell out weeks in advance. The Tatkal quota opens one day before departure, it carries a surcharge but can rescue a last-minute plan.

When booking on IRCTC, search for station code DWK (Dwarka) as the destination. If no direct train shows availability, search for OKHA (Okha) and alight at the intermediate stop of Dwarka, which is served by most trains going to Okha anyway. Always confirm that Dwarka is listed as an intermediate stop on the specific train you book, as some express trains skip smaller stations.

For return journeys, the same trains run in the reverse direction. If you are combining Dwarka with Somnath (236 km from Dwarka), one option is to travel from Dwarka toward Rajkot or Ahmedabad by road, stop at Somnath (which requires a diversion), and then continue by road or rail from Somnath. There is no direct Dwarka-to-Somnath train, all connections require changing at Rajkot or Ahmedabad and are time-consuming enough that road travel is preferred.
